Virtual Open Mic: July Edition

We are excited to host our first Virtual Open Mic, aimed at fostering South-South intercultural exchange that celebrates the diverse voices of spoken word poets from across Africa. At COAL, we believe that cross-cultural interaction cultivates relationships and shared learning across countries/cultures.

Whether you’re a seasoned performer or a first-time participant, this is the perfect opportunity to showcase your talent. In addition to this, we have a fireside creative writing workshop by internationally acclaimed Poet Bash Amuneni.

How to Participate:

  1. Sign Up: Click here to register.
  2. Prepare Your Act: Music, poetry, comedy, storytelling – all types of performances are welcome!
  3. Join the Event: On the day of the event, join the Zoom call using the link on your email provided after registration. Make sure to join 5 minutes before to ensure sound and audio quality is perfect.

If you prefer to be part of the audience, simply join the Zoom call at the scheduled time and enjoy the diverse range of performances.

Meet our Guest Poet

Bash Amuneni – General Manager of Abuja Literary Society, Nigerian Ambassador to the World Poetry Slam Organisation and African Cup of Slam Poetry is a performance poet who has performed at LIPFest, Kaba Fest, Poetry Africa, Alitfest, Slameroun, and so on. Most recently shared stories at the Festival of Ideas; A Journey into African Knowledges at the University of Sussex and ‘D-Day 80’ commemorative readings in Portsmouth City. He was the performance poet at the commissioning of the African Development Bank HQ and the African Parliamentary Union Congress held in 2018. Listed amongst the 10 most influential performance poets in Nigeria in 2020, his next performance is at the honourary Investiture event in London organized by Myles Leadership University. As a poet and storyteller, Bash has worked with global brands like Balvenie whiskey, Options Consultancy Services, the World Intellectual Property Organisation, the United Nations, the European Union, the Nigerian Navy and many more.
